Rays outran in Geelong
A strong start by the Falcons proved too much as Dandenong fell short by thirty points at Western Oval.
Round thirteen for the boys saw them travel over to Geelong to take on the Falcons.
With seven players representing Vic Country over the weekend, it meant five new faces were added into the starting side.
Those being Corey Ah-Mu, Wil Antrobus, Jake Georgiou, Kyle Harrison, and Dylan Linden.
In other news, defender Charlie Orchard got the opportunity to play with the Sandringham Zebras in the VFL.
It was a tough start to the match with the home side booting the first six goals to zero in the opening thirty-five minutes.
But the boys dug deep and finally got on the board in the second term through debutant Georgiou, who rolled one home from forty out to give us a spark.
Geelong responded with another soon after.
Lochie Commons continued his great start to the season by bagging a major in the eleventh minute to find our second.
The boys started to get their hands on the ball more and as a result found another major through Benjamin Carroll after he converted from a set shot.
That cut the margin down under five straight goals.
Finding some space inside-fifty was Oscar Lonie who sailed a long bomb through for our fourth.
The energy of the game had shifted nearing half time.
We went into the main break twenty-one points adrift but with some momentum.
Some great ruck craft from Fraser Marino followed by a clever tap from Marcus Prasad saw Jack Lawrence get on the end of a play inside-fifty and convert on the run to give us our fifth goal.
Commons then found his second of the match in the sixth minute to cut the margin down to just eight points.
We were pressing with a couple of behinds in a row before the Falcons went up the other end and hit back.
Adrian Cole was strong down back, halting several Falcons’ attacks with his intercepts.
The next ten minutes of the quarter were played between the two arcs with neither team able to break through until Linden kicked truly after receiving a free-kick near goal for his first in Stingrays’ colours.
Despite trailing by just nine points going into the last term, we unfortunately couldn’t sustain the momentum.
With Geelong putting on four goals to zero to eventually run out victors.
The final score read Falcons 12.10 (82) defeating Stingrays 7.10 (52).
Jasper Russell topped the disposal count for us with 24 to go along with eleven rebound-50s, while Hilliard (20), Hodder (20), and Lawrence (18) all accumulated. Cole, Thomas Hose, and Commons all hauled in five marks apiece while Prasad fought hard for his nine tackles.
The boys get a week off for round fourteen with the bye before returning to action against the Sandringham Dragons on the 12th of July in Seaford.
